Need a song that will put a smile on your face that isn’t necessarily Kpop? Well then look no further than the Korean indie world, particularly Standing Egg, whose sweet melody and easygoing lyrics are sure to give you the warm fuzzies. The indie group dropped their newest mini-album “36.5” a few days ago, and as expected, its feel-good music delivers a happy-go-lucky je ne sais quoi, making it a perfect fit for spring.

The Band:  Egg 1, Egg 2, & Egg 3. You’ll commonly see these names, though: Clover (Jin Kyung-min). Han Kyul, and Hana

The Backstory: For a group as well-known as Standing Egg, you’d be hard-pressed to find much information on the group itself since they mostly keep to themselves. As far as I’m aware, the actual identities of each Egg remained a mystery for some time, though, some sources cite Egg 2 as Clover himself. Rather than trying to figure out who’s who, however, what’s more important to know is that the group produces and composes their own music. And that’s just damn impressive.

I first heard of Standing Egg back in 2012 through a different source: Kang Seung-yoon (the former Superstar K2 contestant who is now both a solo artist and a WINNER member). At the time, he covered one of the group’s singles “Have You Ever Fallen In Love,” which quickly became one of my all-time faves. I then proceeded to eat up any and all music from Standing Egg, listening to all of their music on repeat for weeks. WEEKS, I tell you. Now that’s love.

Since then, the group has popped up on my radar every few months either because of a new mini-album, a collaboration with another artist, or a drama soundtrack. But no matter where they’re featured, every song has matched my current mood to a T.

The Song: What I say next might sound like Kpop heresy, but hear me out: sometimes you’re just not in the mood to listen to Kpop. There are times when all the idol offerings sound like one collective blur, and you need a simple acoustic melody and one (or two) clear voices to help you appreciate the music for what it was originally meant for: enjoyment. And in the midst of such bombastic songs, it’s amazing what one relaxing song can do to pick up your spirits.

The Lyrics: (Korean from Naver Music and English from Popgasa)

Just like you girl Just like you girl
Girl Just like you girl

Just like you girl Just like you girl
Girl Just like you girl

Just like you girl Just like you girl
Girl Just like you girl
Just like you girl Just like you girl
Girl Just like you girl

Girl Just like you girl I like you girl only you girl

I’m gonna confess today so please help me
Look at me from head to toe and see if anything looks off
If this shirt doesn’t look good, should I change into a knit sweater?
How should I say it? You listen first

Just like you girl, just like you girl
Do you really not know?
Girl just like you girl
How much more do I have to say?

Should I say it was love at first sight, that it’s destiny?
Should I just be honest and say I liked you for a long time?

If you were her, what would you do?
Would you ignore me or just laugh over it?
Yes you, you right now, I don’t wanna beat around the bush anymore

Just like you girl, just like you girl
Do you really not know?
Girl just like you girl
How much more do I have to say?

Just like you girl, just like you girl
Who else would I have?
Girl just like you girl
I can’t go on if it’s not you

Just like you girl, just like you girl
Who else would I have?
Girl just like you girl
I can’t go on if it’s not you

Girl Just like you girl I like you girl only you girl
